Vegetarian in Nyack…..Main Essentials is open!

Well the wait is finally over. The long awaited Grand Opening of Main Essential Vegetarian Restaurant at 145 Main Street in Nyack has come. I couldn’t wait to walk down with my family to have my first vegan meal since Main Essentials decided to move from Haverstraw to Nyack.

About five years ago, my broker and friend, Russ Woolley and I came across this little Caribbean Vegan restaurant in Haverstraw. They had just opened and didn’t have a following yet. Well let’s just say that had me at “hello”. Being a vegetarian for the past 13 years hasn’t always been convenient, and finding “good” food that was not only healthy but delicious was extremely challenging. Once I tasted their meat alternatives (veggie ribs, veggie ham, chicken tenders, spicy ribs, pepper steak, etc) along with their rice, beans, fresh veggies, yucca, plantains, Jamaican patties, etc…I was hooked. For the past five years I have been driving up to Haverstraw three days a week. Well I don’t need to drive to get my fix anymore because they have opened their new location right here in Nyack. Now I can walk to Main Essentials…..A green way to get my veggies.

As their number one fan and Realtor, I rented them their new space at 145 Main Street. Enrique Almonte, the creative owner and Vegan entrepreneur, transformed a 1200 sq.ft. plain vanilla box into a Caribbean Vegan paradise. He did an incredible job. The atmosphere is tropical, earthy, festive and friendly. There is always great music playing…Bob Marley, Salsa, etc…. A touch of Dominican Republic mixed with Jamaican Rasta. Totally unique, authentic and original.

So even if you’re not a vegetarian, trust me, you will not believe how delicious, fresh, flavorful, and healthy vegan food can be. Stop by and have a taste. See you there.
