Are you sure you want Facebook to show all angles of your face?
Okay, so I got bit by the Facebook bug….and it’s been fun. Within 24 hours, a friend from 7th grade and I found each other! It was great. Anyway, I love hearing about what other people are doing, finding out how their day is going, and truth be told…I love being able to talk about myself too! Within that first 24 hours I had 54 friends, boy I felt good.
Well now it’s been about a week, and I still love it. And I think it’s a great way to reach others and be social online. And I am going to keep my Facebook page. I’ve also started thinking more about how much and with whom should I share. I understand that recently every week 1 million people join facebook, but what most don’t know are the default settings that Facebook has chosen for us. It would be well worth your time to explore those settings.
I’m in the beginning of my explorations, and it is a little complex to move through the settings…remember to hit the save your changes button at the bottom of each page. Sometimes, it freezes and you have to start all over if you weren’t able to save.
Here are the first few things that I have done to protect my privacy:
1. I kept my profile from being searched on google:
- Go to “settings” in the top right in the dark blue bar at top of facebook page
- Click on privacy settings in the drop down menu.
- Click on Search
- At the bottom, uncheck the box that says create a public search listing for me…..
2. Take advantage of putting each friend in a group..it’s a little bit of work.. but worth it. If you put all your friends in a group, you will be able to customize settings to allow certain groups to see certain info. For instance, if you use your page for work, Church and friends…well you can allow work and Church to see your email and friends not. FYI — you can add each friend to more than one group and each group can have it’s own privacy settings.
I’ll post more as I figure it out! Good luck and have fun Facebooking!
